Man killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

A man was killed in an alleged gunfight with police at Marine Drive Road in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district early Thursday.

Police said the deceased Hanif, 38, son of Kashem Ali of Natmora area, was a drug peddler.

Pradip Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said Hanif was arrested on Wednesday from the upazila.

During investigation, police gleaned information about drug trading from him and later conducted a drive in the area along with him to recover firearms and Yaba.

Sensing presence of police in the area criminals opened fire, triggering a gunfight, the OC said.
Hanif was caught in the line of fire and was fatally wounded.

Later, he was taken to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
