Bangladesh likely to play its first day-night Test during tour to India

-

Bangladesh is likely to play its first day-night Test during their next month’s tour to India.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chief Executive Officer Nizam Uddin Chowdhury on Sunday said BCB received a proposal from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently, UNB reports.

However, BCB will take the final decision regarding the matter after discussion with the players of the national team as the national cricketers have never played a day-night Test before. At the same time, Bangladesh has no day-night first-class event in domestic cricket.

“I got a proposal from the Indian board. We have to discuss the matter in a board meeting. We also have to discuss it with the players of the national team. It will take time to make a final decision about it,” Nizam Uddin told media on Sunday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

BCB Cricket Operation Committee chairman Akram Khan said, “We received the proposal from India two days before. But we are yet to discuss it. We will inform about playing a day-night Test in India. I hope it will take two to three days time to make the things cleared.”

It is believed that the new BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is a strong advocate of day-night Tests as the oldest form of the game is losing its audience rapidly.

However, India is one of the biggest cricketing nations who are yet to feature in a day-night Test.

Bangladesh will play a three-match T20 series against India before heading to a two-match Test series. The first Test will be played in Indore from November 14 while the second Test will be hosted by Kolkata from November 22.
