2 siblings found dead in city, mother held

The throat-slit bodies of two minor siblings were found in a house in the city’s Basabo area on Friday night.

The deceased were identified as Mashrafi Bin Mahbub Abrar, 7, son of Mahbubur Rahman, and his (Abrar) sister Humaira Binte Mahbub Tawkia.

Talking to reporters, Mabub, an official of Dhaka Wasa, said he found the door of their house locked from outside when he returned after saying Esa prayers at a local mosque.

Later, he entered the house by opening it and found the slaughtered bodies of the two siblings in the bedroom.

Informed by locals, police recovered the bodies of the children from the room of the house at 157/2 of Uttar Basabo near Sabujbagh Community Centre around 10 pm, said officer-in-charge of Sabujbagh Police Station Abdul Kuddus.

Meanwhile, police early Saturday arrested Tanzin Rahman, mother of the two minor siblings whose throat-slit bodies were found in the city’s Basabo area on Friday night, in connection with the murder.

Officer-in-charge of Sabujbagh Police Station Abdul Kuddus Fakir said a team of police conducted a drive in Sabujbagh area of the city and arrested Tanzin at about 4:00am, who went into hiding after the incident.

Quoting locals, the OC also said Tanzin is mentally ill.
