5 killed in Gazipur train-car crash

Five people were killed as a train hit a car on a level-crossing in Gazipur district this morning.

The accident took place at Kaliakoir Upazila's Nayanagar around 9:15am when the Kolkata-bound Moitree Express rammed the car at the level-crossing, sending it on a roll.

The driver, two women and two minors were killed on the spot, said Sub Inspector Md Russell of Kaliakoir police.

Dhaka's train communications with Mymensingh and the northern part of the country has been disrupted after the accident, said Joydebpur Railway Junction's Station Master Shahidul Islam.

The Dhaka-bound Sirajganj Express train and the Sundarban Express Dhumketu Express and Nilsagar Express trains, which had left from Dhaka, became stranded at different railway stations following the crash, said Station Master Islam of Joydebpur Railway Junction.
