AL leader put on 2-day remand in B’baria attack

A Brahmanbaria court on Tuesday placed an Awami League leader on a two-day remand in a case filed over attacks on Nasirnagar Hindu community people.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Shafiqul Islam passed the order when police produced Suruj Ali, president of Chapartala union unit Awami League, before the court, seeking a seven-day remand for him.

Earlier, on Sunday night, DB police arrested Suruj Ali from his residence in Chapartala area of Nasirnagar upazila.

A total of 107 people have been so far, arrested in connection with the Nasirnagar attack.

On October 30, some unruly people demolished 15 Hindu temples and vandalised over 100 houses in the upazila following a Facebook post that allegedly hurt the religious sentiment of the Muslim community.
