Khulna Titans will need 148 runs for a victory against Rangpur Riders with the latter’s fate of getting a last-four berth still hanging in balance in the seven-team Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 tournament, reports UNB.
Batting first after winning the toss in the 38th match of the league, Rangpur Riders scored 147 for 6 in 20 overs spurred with Mohammad Mithun’s unbeaten half century of 50* runs at Sher-eBangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) on Sunday.
On the way to his innings of 35 balls, including two boundaries and four sixes, Mithun shared a partnership of 42* off 4.3 overs with skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza in the 7th stand, starting after the dismissal of Nahidul Islam on 105/6 in 16.2 overs.
Opener Chris Gayle scored 38 off 27 balls with four boundaries and two sixes, while Mashrafe (15* off 11b; 2x4), Brendan McCullum (15 off 11b; 2x4; 1x6) and Ravi Bopara (11 off 16b) were other double digit scorers for the side.
Jofra Archer got two wickets for 28 runs in four overs. Carlos Brathwaite, Abu Jayed, Mohammad Irfan and Shafiul Islam took one wicket each for 10, 14, 20 and 48 runs respectively.
If Rangpur loses the day’s game, they will have to wait for a win in their last match against defending champion Dhaka Dynamites on December 6. In reversed scenario, Rangpur will book the last seat of the play off stage with one match to spare sinking the Sylhet Sixers last hope.
