BPL: Dhaka Dynamites move to 2nd slot beating Rangpur Riders

An all-round performance by captain Shakib Al Hasan guided Dhaka Dynamites into the 2nd slot of the seven-team franchise-based 5th Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) beating Rangpur Riders by 43 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday, UNB reports.

After the match, Dhaka Dynamites and Khulna Titans secured 15 points each from all the 12 league encounters, but Dhaka Dynamites (1.631) clinched the 2nd place by virtue of better net run rate forcing Khulna Titans (0.075) to the 3nd slot. Comilla Victorians topped the list with 16 points from 11 matches.

Replying to Dhaka Dynamites’ 137 runs for 7, Rangpur Riders, captained by Brendon McCullum, were forced to fold their innings cheaply for 94 runs for 7 in 20 overs.
Dhaka Dynamites captain Shakib Al Hasan decided to bat first after winning the toss and scored 137 for 7 in stipulated 20 overs.

However, the defending champions faced initial batting jolt losing top five wickets for 48 runs in 9.2 overs, but number six batsman Mehedi Maruf pairing with Shakib repaired the early damage contributing 55 runs in the 6th wicket stand.

Number seven batsman Shakib contributed an unbeaten 47 runs off 33 balls featuring two fours and two sixes while Mehedi Maruf scored 23-ball 33 runs hitting three fours and one six.

Besides, Evin Lewis scored 18-ball 14 runs with two fours and Mosaddek Hossain made seven-ball 10 runs featuring one four and a six.

National coloured pacer Rubel Hossain and Ebadat Hossain took two wickets each conceding 32 and 37 runs respectively.

In reply, Rangpur Riders made a disastrous start losing top five wickets cheaply for 39 runs in 9.1 overs and never recovered their early debacle to fold their innings for 94 runs.

Number six Ravi Bopera scored the team highest not out 28 runs off 30 balls with one four and a six, opener Johnson Charles contributed 30-ball 26 runs hitting two sixes while Nahidul Islam made 19-ball 13 runs with a boundary.

Shakib Al Hasan, who made the match highest not out 47 runs, also displayed his brilliance in bowling grabbing two wickets for 13 runs and was adjudged man of the match. Abu Hider Rony also took two wickets for 23 runs.

Rangpur Riders rested their regular captain Mashrafe Mortaza as one of seven changes to their XI for the match. Chris Gayle, Ziaur Rahman, Chamara Kapugedara, Nazmul Islam, Sohag Gazi and Isuru Udana were also rested. Rubel Hossain, Abdur Razzak, Shahriar Nafees, Ebadat Hossain, Johnson Charles, Adam Lyth and Samuel Badree were included.

Dhaka made four changes including Mehedi Maruf, Mohammad Saddam, Mohammad Amir and Evin Lewis in place of Shahid Afridi, Cameron Delport, Shadman Islam and Nadif Chowdhury.
