Ctg Test: Mominul, Mushfiq roar for Tigers 374/4* on day one

Mominul Haque roared with an unbeaten century and former Bangladesh Test skipper Mushfiqur Rahim fell short of eight runs for another ton in the 1st innings for the day one collection of 374/4 in 90 overs, at stumps, against visiting Sri Lanka in the 1st match of a two-Test series at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Wednesday, UNB reports.

The day’s hero Mominul stayed 25 runs away for his maiden double century, completing his 5th Test ton in the second session, remaining at the crease with 175* off 203 balls, including 16 boundaries and one six, while skipper Mahmudullah Riyad (9* off 20b; 2x4) was pairing him in the 5th wicket.

With day’s figure, Mominul crossed the 2000 runs mark, aggregating 2015 at average 47.97 which included five centuries and 12 sixes. Mominul played so far 26 matches, making his Test debut in March 2013 against Sri Lanka at Galle where he hammered a half century of 55 runs and the erstwhile Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim hit a double century of 200 runs in the 1st innings of a draw game.

Both the big hitters nearly completed two sessions on the day with sharing the Tigers’ the 3rd pair highest partnership innings of 236 off 56.1 overs, which is the 4th highest in any wicket stand.

Mushfiqur featured 10 boundaries in his innings of 92 off 192 balls before being caught behind by Niroshan Dickwella off Suranga Lakmal.

Mominul-Mushfiqur started from 120/2 in 27.4 overs, after the dismissal of Imrul Kayes, and ended on 356/3 in 83.5 overs.

The Tigers’ innings was ok with top-order contribution as their two left-handed opening batsmen Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes crossed 100-runs mark with 120/2 in 27.4 overs before the lunch, but number-five batsman Liton Kumar Das diminished the game temperament, leaving the crease with duck just after the next ball Mushfiqur’s dismissal on 356 runs.

Tamim hurried to hit a fifty of 52 off 53 to exit from the innings off six boundaries and one six for his 25th Test half century. He was bowled out by spin all-rounder Dilruwan Perera on 72/1 in 15.5 overs.

Imrul Kayes (40 off 75b; 4x4) was lbw by Lakshan Sandakan on 120/2 in 27.4 overs from where Mominul-Mushfiqur started their composures.

The previous 3rd wicket highest partnership innings of 157 off 57 overs against New Zealand was recorded by Tamim Iqbal and Mominul Haque at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka in October 2013.

The Tigers highest Test partnership is 359 off 82.2 overs against New Zealand is recorded by Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim at Basin Reserve, Wellington in January 2017.

Suranga Lakmal got Mushfiqur and bowled out Liton conceding 43 runs while Lakshan Sandakan and Dilruwan Perera shared two wickets for 58 and 98 runs respectively.
