A Bangladeshi cattle trader has been tortured to death by Border Security Force (BSF) of India along the Shingnagar frontier in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district, UNB reports.

The deceased was identified Shariful Islam, son of late Amzad Ali of Panditpara village of the upazila.

Locals said Shariful went to the border near pillar No-171 early Saturday to bring cattle from India.

However, BSF members from Daulatpur camp detained him and tortured him inhumanly.

Shariful managed to escape with severe injuries and family members took him to a private clinic in Rajshahi city where doctors referred him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

He, however, succumbed to his injuries at the RMCH on Saturday night, said Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Rajpara Police Station of the Rajshahi city.

He also said the autopsy of the victim was done at the hospital on Sunday.
