11 February 2018,Sunday, 22:31

Dhaka University (DU) students have demanded permanent expulsion of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists responsible for brutally roughing up a fellow DU student at a dormitory.

Ehsan Rafiq, a second year student of the Department of Disaster Management and Science, was beaten badly allegedly by some BCL activities at DU Salimullah Muslim Hall on Tuesday night just for demanding back his calculator taken on lent. Ehsan is now suffering with his poor right eyesight.

Under the banner of `Anti-Harassment students’ more than one hundred students from different department gagging their eyes with bandage formed a human chain at the altar of Raju sculpture protesting attack on Ehsan Rafiq.

The demonstrators alleged that the ruling Awami League’s student wing BCL established a reign of terror at all residential halls of the university.

Criticizing the university administration for their failure to ensure security of the general students, they also alleged that the ‘backboneless administration’ became the custodian of the culprits.

Demanding permanent expulsion of BCL activists they also warned to wage tougher movement if the administration failed to meet their demands.
