Four people were killed and four others injured on Wednesday when a goods-laden truck hit a battery-run auto-rickshaw at Laudia on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Jhenidah district.
The deceased were identified as Aslam, 40, Kamal, 35, auto-rickshaw driver Mahbub and Hazera Khatun.
Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Emdadul Haque Sheikh said the Jhenidah-bound truck rammed the Kaliganj-bound auto-rickshaw around 2 pm, killing three people on the spot and injuring five others.
The injured were rushed to Jhenidah General Hospital where one of the injured, Hazera Khatun, succumbed to her injuries, he said.
Police seized the truck but its driver managed to flee.
