Test Series: Bangladesh show no comeback signs against West Indies

West Indies lead by 224 runs in 2nd innings of 2nd Test after day 2

A batting collapse of Bangladesh’s 149/10 in the 1st innings of a series-decider against host West Indies in Jamaica on Friday revived the visitors’nightmare of Antigua Test, UNB reports.

Windies was leading by 224 runs and nine wickets in hand in the second innings with 19/1* in 9 overs, at stumps, where Devon Smith [8*] and Keemo Paul [0*] at the crease after the 2nd day’s play at Sabina Park in Kingston.

Windies now is likely very close to whitewash Bangladesh in the series as Bangladesh conceded defeat by an innings and 219 runs in the 1st Test with their record lowest innings score of 43/10 in 18.4 overs in the 1st innings before 144/10 in 40.2 overs in the 2nd innings, finishing the game on day-three in Antigua on July 6.

On the 2nd day’s morning in Jamaica, Windies resumed the 1st innings with overnight score of 295/4 in 92 overs and ended on 354/10 in 112 overs before the lunch break as Abu Jayed, MehidyHasanMiraz and Taijul Islam shared six wickets in 1st session of the day.

Overnight batsman ShimronHetmyer [86 off 105b; 9x4] -- was caught behind by Nurul Hasan off Abu Jayed -- could manage only two runs more off seven balls on the day, leaving his team on 297/5 in 94.5 overs.

Skipper Jason Holder[ 33* off 42b; 2x4] played an unbeaten innings while anther overnight batsman Roston Chase was out for 20 adding four runs more with his previous collection.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz (5/93), Abu Jayed (3/38) and Taijul Islam (2/82) were the wicket takers in the innings for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh opened the 1st innings before the 2nd day’s lunch break and dismally ended on 149/10 in 46.1 overs where opener TamimIqbal [47 off 105b; 6x4] top-scored for the side before being bowled out by debutant pace bowler Keemo Paul on 117/5 in 36.3 overs.

Tigers skipper Shakib Al Hasan [32 off 53b; 5x4], former skipper Mushfiqur Rahim [24 off 57b; 5x4], a bowler Taijul Islam [18 off 18b; 4x4] and wicketkeeper batsman Liton Kumar Das [12 off 18b; 2x4] were other double digit scorers in the innings for Bangladesh.

Jason Holder (5/44), Shannon Gabriel (2/19), Keemo Paul (2/25) and Miguel Cummins (1/34) handled Bangladesh’s bowlers in the innings.
