Several hundred villagers including students put up a barricade on Dhaka-Chattogram highway following the injuries of two students in a road accident at Kanchpur in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj on Thursday.
Mohammad Kaiyum, in-charge of Kanchpur Police camp, said two students of Hazi Omar Ali High School sustained injured when a vehicle hit them in Kanchpur area around 8:30 am.
The injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said the OC.
As the news spread, the students of the school along with locals put up a barricade on Dhaka-Chattogram highway, halting traffic movement on the busy road.
The agitating locals also vandalised 10-12 vehicles following the accident, he added.
Several thousand people have been suffering since morning as a 10-kilometre-long tailback stretching from Meghna Bridge to Signboard point in Narayanganj was created following the incident.
