A suspected robber was killed in a 'gunfight' with DB police on Jashore-Chougaccha road at Dogachia Bazar in Sadar upazila of Jashore district early Tuesday.

The deceased, identified as Selim, 40, son of Abdul Kader of Sadar upazila, was wanted in a dozen of cases including that of robbery and drug, said Maniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of DB police.

He said that being tipped off that two groups of ‘robbers’ were exchanging gunshots among them, a team of DB police conducted a drive in the area around 3:30 am.

Sensing presence of the detectives, the robber opened fire on them forcing them to retaliate in self-defense.

At one stage, robbers fled the area.

Later, law enforcers recovered the bullet-hit body of Selim and took it to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.

Maniruzzaman said police also recovered one shutter gun, 5 bullets, three shells of bullets and some sharp weapons from the spot.
