‘Drug trader’ killed in Dhaka ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was killed in an alleged gunfight with police in Paltan on early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Kamal Hossain, 35.

Police said they sent a team to the area around 1am after being tipped off that a group of ‘drug traders’ had gathered at Mahanagar Nattyamancha area, UNB reports.

As soon as police reached the spot, the ‘drug traders’ opened fire, triggering a skirmish, a source at Paltan Police Station said.

Later, police found Kamal with bullet wounds and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

They also recovered a pistol, 100 yaba pills and hemp from the spot.

Kamal was wanted in several cases filed with Paltan and Ramna police stations, according to police.
