02 March 2019,Saturday, 11:09

At least three activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were injured in infighting at Rajshahi University (RU) on Friday, reports UNB.

BCL is the student wing of ruling Bangladesh Awami League (AL).

The injured are Maruf and Asif, both second year student of RU Public Administration department, and Anik, a third year student of Economics department.

Anik is a follower of BCL RU unit general secretary Faisal Ahmed Runu while Maruf and Asif are the supporters of RU BCL president Golam Kibria.

Campus insiders said two groups of BCL -- one led by Anik and the other by Maruf and Asif --locked into a scuffle at the university's Sabas Bangladesh playground in the afternoon over a cricket match.

Following the incident, Anik along with his supporters beat up Maruf and Asif with cricket bats and stumps at Rojob's Tea Stall beside the Shahidullah Arts Building in the evening.

Being informed, a group of 10-12 supporters of Maruf and Asif beat up Anik as the later was found walking alone at the university's Zoha Chattar.
