Dhaka University’s Vice Chancellor Prof Md Akhteruzzaman is learnt to have outright rejected the demand for re-election to Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) and threatened to file lawsuit against the agitating students.

“The VC has rejected our demand for re-election. Instead, he threatened us that the university authority will file a case against those creating anarchy and chaos on the campus ,” Liton Nandi, leader of the leftist panel, told reporters after handing a memorandum demanding fresh Ducsu election schedule in three days.

The VC could not be contacted as he was in a ‘meeting’.

Earlier, members of different panels, who boycotted Monday’s election to Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu), have given the authorities a 3-day ultimatum today to announce schedule for fresh polls.

In hundreds, general students led by leaders of various panels brought out a procession from Raju sculpture around 12:30pm and marched towards vice-chancellor’s office.

Ducsu vice-president-elect Nurul Haq Nur, also a quota reform movement leader, was among the protesters.

Later, a six-member delegation met VC Prof Akhteruzzaman and handed over a memorandum to him in this regard.
