The third and final Test of a three-match series between New Zealand and Bangladesh has been called off following a gun attack in a Christchurch mosque.

The game was scheduled to be played on Saturday.

“A joint decision between NZC and the @BCBtigers has been made to cancel the Hagley Oval Test,” New Zealand Cricket Board wrote on Twitter at 10:01am (BdST).

Both teams and support staff groups are safe, it said.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families and friends of those affected by the shocking situation in Christchurch,” the cricket board tweeted.

New Zealand have won the first two Tests and secured the series. With the third Test cancelled, Bangladesh team will now fly home as early as possible.

Tigers Manager Khaled Mashud Pilot has confirmed that Bangladesh team and support staffs are safe.

Local media reported that there were shootings at two mosques in Christchurch - one in Deans Avenue and the other in Linwood Avenue – in which dozens of people are feared dead.

The shooter, who identified himself as ‘Brenton Tarrant’, a 28-year-old Australian-born man, livestreamed the shooting for 17 minutes, reports say.

A suspect has been arrested following the shooting.
