College student among 3 killed as train rams motorbike in Gopalganj

Three motorcyclists, including a college student, were killed after their vehicle was hit by a train at Bhennabari level crossing in the Sadar upazila of Gopalganj early Wednesday.

Two of the deceased were identified as Raju Shikdar, 25, son of Siddik Shikdar of Islambagh Elabagh, and Tanvir Chowdhury Rocky, 19, a college student and son of Quamrul Chowdhury of Mohammad Para. The identity of the third victim could not be known yet.

Mohammad Manirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said Goplaganj-bound ‘Tungipara Express’ train from Rajshahi hit the motorbike the trio were riding on at night, killing all of them on the spot.

On information, police went to the spot around 6:15 am and recovered the bodies.

Later, the bodies were sent to Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

Locals alleged that there was no gateman at the level crossing when the accident occurred.
