Arson attack at California mosque where New Zealand shooting note left

An incident of arson attack at a mosque in California of USA have taken place early Sunday morning, where the suspect left behind a note referencing the terrorist attacks at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, that killed 50 worshippers.

Quoting local media Reuters reported police are investigating a fire at a Southern California mosque as a possible arson and hate crime after fresh graffiti on the driveway mentioned the mass shootings at two mosques in New Zealand.

Police and firefighters were called to the Islamic Center of Escondido, north of San Diego, about 3:15 a.m. (1015 GMT) on Sunday about a fire that blackened an outside wall.

Congregants at the center smelled smoke, spotted the fire and put it out before it caused serious damage, before firefighters arrived, media reported.

No one was injured.

Police Lt. Chris Lick said they found a note in the parking lot referencing the shootings this month at mosques in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand, that left 50 people dead and others seriously injured from a gunman who published a hate-filled manifesto on social media.

He did not elaborate about the contents of the note.

Investigators did not release information about a suspect.

The fire caused minor damage to the mosque’s exterior.

Seven people were inside the mosque at the time of the fire, police said, adding that they were able to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher before firefighters arrived on the scene, KNSD reported.
