Another election official injured in Baghaichhari gun attack dies

A polling officer, who sustained bullet injuries in the March 18 gun attack in Baghaichhari Upazila of Rangamati district, died at Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital on Monday night, raising the death toll to eight.

Officer-in-charge of Baghachhari Police Station, MA Mozur, said Niru Bikash Chakma, office assistant of Baghaichhari High School, succumbed to his injuries around 11:15pm.

Immediately after the attack, critically injured Niru was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital and then shifted to CMH after his condition worsened.

The gun attack carried out on a motorcade of election officials and law enforcers left seven persons killed and 24 wounded.

The officials were returning from three centres in Sajek after voting in the second phase of upazila election.
