‘Robber gang leader’ killed in Kishoreganj ‘gunfight’

A man police call ringleader of a robber gang was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Chandpur Bridge in Bhairab upazila of Kishoreganj early Wednesday.

The deceased identified as Mahram Ali, 32, is a resident of Kalipur Village in the upazila.

Mokhlesur Rahman, officer in-charge of Bhairab Police Station, said police conducted a drive in the area around 2 am, after receiving information from secret source that a gang of robbers was taking preparation to commit robbery in the area.

Sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire on them, forcing the law enforcers to fire back, which triggered a gunfight.

At one stage, police arrested Mahram with bullet injury and rushed him to Bhairab upazila health complex where the doctors declared him dead.

Three policemen including Sub-inspector Jahangir Alam were also sustained injuries in the gunfight.

The OC said Mahram was wanted in several cases including that of robbery and drug trading.

A LG gun, five cartridges, two sharp weapons, 25 bottles of Phensidyl and 100 yaba pills were recovered from the spot.
