Female police among 2 died more in dengue

A police sub-inspector and an employee of Samsung customer care have died from mosquito-borne tropical dengue fever at Dhaka hospitals today (Wednesday).

Police Sub-Inspector Kohinur Begum died around 1:15am at Mohammadpur’s City Hospital.

Confirming the death, Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general (media) at police headquarters, said: “Kohinoor was a sub-inspector of the Special Branch of police.”

Requesting anonymity, a City Hospital staff said Kohinur was admitted to the hospital’s general ward on July 29, and was later shifted to the Intensive Care Unit on Tuesday morning.

Her namaz-e-janaza will be held at Rajarbagh Police Lines.

The customer care employee, Rabiul Islam Rabbi, 21, in Mirpur’s Shewrapara died around 12:10pm at Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s (DMCH) emergency department.

Deceased’s father Amirul Islam, hailing from Kotawali upazila of Faridpur, said: “Rabbi was infected by dengue on July 22 and admitted to hospital on July 25.”

Sub Inspector (SI) Abdur Rahman Khan of DMCH police outpost said: “Rabbi was first admitted to Kurmitola General Hospital and died before arriving at DMCH.”

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) records, a total 17,183 dengue patients have been hospitalized across Bangladesh till January this year. Of them 4,903 are still in hospital.

The highest 1477 patients have been infected by dengue in the last 24 hours, that is also the highest one-day record of dengue infection.

The DGHS confirmed 14 deaths in dengue till the date while the unofficial tally of reported deaths stood at 44 until Wednesday afternoon.
