Dengue claims 4 more lives; 634 new infections recorded

Four people, including two women, have died of dengue in Jashore, Khulna and Barishal while 634 people have been hopsitalised across the country.
The new deaths were recorded on Tuesday night and Wednesday while the fresh infections in 24 hours till Wednesday morning.
The number of new dengue cases was 753 on Tuesday.
In Jashore, two women succumbed to the mosquito-borne disease on Wednesday morning.
The deceased were identified as Jahida Begum, 44, wife of Quader of Hanua village, and Jahanara Begum, 35, of Manshimnagar village in Manirampur upazila. Both were hospitalised with dengue on September 9.
Dr Arif Ahmed, medical officer of Jessore General Hospital, said they advised Jahida’s relatives to shift her to Dhaka as her condition deteriorated.
But she could not be moved because of her critical condition and she died around 6:25am, he said.
Dr Abdur Rahim, supervisor of the hospital, said Jahanara lost battle to dengue around 4am.
With this, six people have so far died of dengue in the district since January, he said.
In Khulna, a woman, diagnosed with mosquito-borne disease dengue, died at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) on Tuesday night.
The deceased, Rahima Begum, 50, was the wife of Rafiqul Islam of Azrail village in Tala upazila of Satkhira.
Dr Sailendranath Biswas, resident medical officer of KMCH, said Rahima was hospitalised on Monday with dengue. She died around 11:30pm.
So far, 11 people have died of dengue in the district.
In Barishal, a schoolboy died of dengue at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital on Wednesday noon.
The deceased was identified as Jihad, 14, a Class-VIII student and son of Babul Hawaladar of Laxmipur in Muladi upazila.
Asit Bhusan Das, duty doctor at the medicine unit-4, said Jihad was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday morning. He died while undergoing treatment around 1:30pm.
Since January, 78,617 people had been hospitalised with dengue and 75,225 of them were released from hospitals after full recovery.
At present, 3,165 patients are being treated at hospitals – 1,434 in Dhaka.
Since January, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) received information about 197 dengue-related deaths. So far, it has reviewed 101 cases and confirmed 60 dengue deaths.
