Demonstrating teachers of primary schools on Wednesday announced that they would boycott the Primary Education Completion (PEC) examination if their demands are not met.
Their demands include elimination of pay disparity as well as implementation of salaries in the 11th grade for the assistant teachers and 10th grade for headmasters.
Atikur Rahman, Chief Convener of the Bangladesh Primary Teachers Oikkya Parishad, made the announcement after police thwarted their assembly in front of the Central Shaheed Minar.
Teachers gathered on the road beside the Shaheed Minar as police prevented them from staging demonstration there.
