US embassy issues fresh security alert for its citizen in Bangladesh

Fearing terrorist attack, the US embassy in Dhaka issued fresh alert encouraging its citizens living in Bangladesh to exercise heightened awareness of the ongoing threat posed by transnational terrorist organizations such as ISIS and al-Qa’ida.

“In light of calls for revenge in the wake of the March 15 terrorist attack against two mosques in New Zealand, we encourage US citizens to exercise heightened awareness of the ongoing threat posed by transnational terrorist organizations such as ISIS and al-Qa’ida,” the embassy said in a statement issued on Wednesday.

It mentioned that terrorist groups, their associates, and those inspired by such organizations remain intent on attacking US and Western citizens around the world, including in Bangladesh.

“Extremists may use conventional or non-conventional weapons to strike US interests, but many are increasingly using less sophisticated methods of attack to more effectively target crowds, including the use of edged weapons, pistols, and vehicles,” it warned.

The embassy also requested its citizens to review their personal security plans as well to be aware of their surroundings.

“Stay alert in locations frequented by Westerners and monitor local media for updates,” the statement read.
