Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Mizanur Rahman, who is facing corruption charge, has been temporarily suspended.

Confirming the matter, Public Relations Officer of Home Ministry Sharif Mahmud Apu said that a notification had already been issued in this regard today.

The action against him has been taken following President’s approval.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on June 24 ordered its director Enamul Basir and DIG Mizanur Rahman to appear before it on July 1 for interrogation.

On May 3 last year, the ACC interrogated the DIG in connection with accumulation of illegal wealth. The commission also reportedly found his involvement in money laundering.

On June 18, the Police Headquarters formed a three-member committee to investigate Mizan’s claim that he bribed Tk 40 lakh to Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director Khandaker Enamul Basir to give him a clean chit.

DIG Mizan, former additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), was withdrawn on January 9, 2018 following allegations of threatening a female news presenter of a private television channel.

Mizan reportedly picked up a 25-year-old woman in July, 2017 and forcibly married her.
