BTRC to reduce bandwidth capacity of GP, Robi as dues still unpaid

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has decided to reduce the bandwidth capacity of Grameenphone and Robi as they failed to pay their dues to the government.

Zakir Hossain Khan, Senior Assistant Director (PR) of BTRC, told UNB that 30 percent bandwidth capacity of GP and 15 percent of Robi will be reduced as they could not clear their dues despite repeated notices.

Zakir said GP, the country’s largest mobile phone operator, has Tk 12,579.95 crore due to the government, including Tk 4,085.95 crore to the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

Robi has due of Tk 867.23 crore to the government, including Tk 197.21 crore to the NBR alone, Zakir added.

He said the BTRC would send a letter to International Internet Gateway (IIGW) to implement its decision.
