Dengue claims lives of 2 women, 348 more hospitalised

Two women have died of dengue in Jhenaidah and Khulna districts while 348 people have been hospitalised after being infected with the mosquito-borne disease across the country.

In Jhenaidah, Kamala Begum, 45, wife of Babul of Bipinnagar village, succumbed to dengue at a hospital in Kaliganj upazila in the evening.

Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr Hossain Shafayat said Kamala was admitted to the Upazila Health Complex on Sunday with high fever and was diagnosed with dengue there.

She died at the hospital around 7pm, he added.

Another woman died of the mosquito-borne disease at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) in Khulna on Sunday night.

The deceased was identified as Rekha Mallick, 45, wife of Chitta Mallick, of Jashore's Keshabpur upazila.

Dr Shailendranath Biswas, resident doctor of KMCH, said Rekha was admitted to the hospital’s Dengue Ward on Saturday and died around 10:45pm on Sunday.

Apart from dengue, Rekha was suffering from heart and kidney diseases, he said.

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Health Services said a total of 348 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country till Monday morning.

Of them, 90 patients were admitted to different hospitals in the capital while 258 outside.

Currently, 1327 dengue patients are being treated at different hospitals across the country.
