Coronavirus: Closure of shops, malls extended till April 9

Bangladesh Shop Owners Association has extended the closure of all shops and shopping malls in the country, except kitchen markets, grocery stores, super shops and pharmacies, to April 9 to contain the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Bangladesh Shop Owners Association took this decision on Thursday.

However, kitchen markets, grocery stores, super shops and pharmacies will not come within the purview of this decision.

As per the government’s directives to check the spread of coronavirus, the association has decided to keep all shopping complexes and malls shut across the country till 9 April, said the platform’s president of Md Helal Uddin and secretary general Md Zahirul Haque Bhuiyan in a joint statement.

The government imposed restrictions on public movement, declaring a general holiday till April 4 in the first phase and later this has been extended till April 11.

Leaders of the association urged all owners and workers of this sector to remain at home.

In the first phase, the shops and malls were kept shut from March 25 to March 31 and later, the closure was extended to April 4.
