AL MP Ferdosi Islam tests positive for coronavirus

Bangladesh's ruling Awami League party's reserved seat lawmaker, or member of parliament (MP) Ferdosi Islam has been infected with the novel coronavirus. 

The Chapainawabganj lawmaker confirmed the matter over phone on Friday.

She submitted her samples at Sansad Bhaban Medical Center on June 23 and on the next day the report confirmed her infection, she said.

Currently, she is taking treatment from home isolation at her NAM Bhavan house in capital Dhaka.

The samples of her family members were also collected for the Covid-19 tests on Thursday, Islam added. 

Meanwhile, the health authorities have confirmed 3,868 cases after testing 18,498 samples on Friday while 40 more people succummed to the disease in the last 24 hours. 

With the new casualties the total death tally has raised to 1,661, according to the latest update of government's health directorate.
