Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said on Wednesday that BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is served iftar according to the jail code as she is a convicted criminal.

But, if she deems the iftar provided to her insufficient and is unhappy about it, “we will ask the concerned authority to take measures,” Quader said while answering journalists’ questions at a Progress Review Meeting of Mass-Rapid Transit (MRT) Lines at Agargaon Metro Rail Site Office.

“Iftar is a religious matter, people usually do not have iftar with expensive food items,” the AL general secretary said adding that politics regarding this religious issue is unexpected.

Obaidul Quader said this referring to yesterday’s iftar party hosted by BNP in honour of politicians where the party provided its leaders with Tk 30 iftar package each.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir during the iftar party, said that government provides Tk 30 for the party chairperson’s iftar. That is why the party men decided to spend the same amount of money per person on the iftar, as a sign of our solidarity, he said.
