Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud on Sunday accused the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) of doing dirty-politics over the health of its chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia who is undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) hospital.

“BNP is continuously doing ill-politics over the health and treatment of Khaleda Zia. Actually, the government is making its all-out efforts to ensure the best medical treatment for her,” state-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha news agency quoted Mahmud as saying.

The minister said this while replying to a question at a ceremony to award fellowship certificate to journalists on menstrual health management at CIRDAP auditorium here.

Hasan said Khaleda Zia is being treated at the country’s highest medical educational institution, the BSMMU. Now BNP leaders are saying Khaleda’s health condition is very bad though she suffered from toothache only, he added.

The minister said BNP leaders are making themselves ridiculous by making such statements at a few days’ interval.

Hasan said the way BNP is presenting Khaleda Zia before the people is not fair. It is BNP’s political bankruptcy, he added.

Replaying to another question, the minister said many people are being infected by dengue but it has not turned into an epidemic yet.

He said the government is making all-out efforts to control the dengue. Dengue is not only spreading in Bangladesh but also in other countries in Asia.
