Bangladeshi youth killed by ‘BSF’ in Satkhira

In the last 18 years between 2000 and 2018 BSF killed at least 1144 Bangladeshis along border while minimum 1078 people were wounded by BSF attack, rights body says

A Bangladeshi man was tortured to death by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the border in Satkhira Sadar upazila on Friday night, victim family members claimed.

Kabirul Hosen Molla, 32, son of Abdul Aziz Molla of Kalani Chhoy Ghoriya village went to the border area along with a few others last evening in order to bring Indian tea leaves, the victim’s brother Rabiul Islam Molla told local journalists.

Members of BSF chased the group and caught Kabirul. However, the other group members managed to flee the scene.

“BSF (men) tortured my brother and poured kerosene in his mouth and rectum before dumping him in the no man’s land along the border,” victim’s brother claimed.

Locals recovered a severely ill Kabirul and rushed him to Satkhira Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead in the wee hours of today, said Officer-in-charge of Satkhira Sadar Police Station Mustafizur Rahman.

Lt Col Golam Mohiuddin Khandakar, commanding officer of BGB-33 Battalion, confirmed the death. “We are trying to find out whether BSF is responsible for the incident,” the BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) official said.

According to Human Rights body, Odhikar, statistics, at least 1144 Bangladeshi people were killed along border area by Indian BSF between 2000 and 2018.

Besides, more than 1078 people were injured by the attacks of BSF during the period while BSF abducted 1367 people and 111 people missed from border area, the statistics added.

The Odhikar report entitled “Human Rights Violation by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) against Bangladeshi Citizens: 2000-2018” also records that BSF pushed in 354 people and involved in at least 157 snatching or looting crimes.
