Police say handwritten notes point to family’s frustration due to negligence by close relatives
Police recovered three dead bodies from the building in Uttarkhan area, Dhaka on Sunday, May 12, 2019 -

Police found bodies of all 3 members of a family dead in their rented house in Dhaka’s Uttarkhan on Sunday evening.

“The main door was closed from inside and we broke open the door to recover the bodies,” the New Age newspaper quotes local police’s additional deputy commissioner Hafizur Rahman as saying.

He added that there were no signs of forced entry into the house but a chit kept under a mobile phone telling “Our fate and negligence from our relatives are responsible for our situation. Please donate our properties to the poor after our deaths.”

Local people identified the deceased as widow Jahan Ara Mukta (48), her son Muhib Hasan Rocky (28), who recently took Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) preliminary examination, and daughter Tasfiya Sultana Meem (20), who was physically challenged.

The bodies of Jahan Ara and Tasfiya were found in a bed while Muhib’s body was lying on the ground of the one-storey rented house at Moynartek, police officials said.

Earlier, local people informed the police after smelling odour from the house, police officer Rahman said, adding, “We are examining all the circumstances to determine the cause of the deaths.”

Police suspected that they died at least two days ago.

The Uttarkhan police station inspector (investigation) Khandaker Nasir Uddin said that the family rented the house few weeks ago.

The police officials added they were waiting for morgue assistants to handle the almost decomposed bodies to see whether the bodies bore any marks of injuries.

According to locals and preliminary information, they hailed from Kishorganj and Jahan Ara’s husband Ikbal Hossain died earlier.
