Officer-in-charge of Paltan Police Station M Mahmudul Haque has been suspended for reportedly raping a girl on a promise to give her a good job and marry her.

The action was taken following investigation after the victim lodged a written complaint with the Inspector General of Police, reports United News of Bangladesh.

According to the complaint, OC Mahmudul brought the girl, a private bank officer, to Dhaka from Naogaon on September 21, 2017 with a promise to give her a good job.

He, however, violated her in a hotel after feeding her with food laced with sedatives.

As the girl regained her senses and realised that she was raped, Mahmudul asked her not to disclose it to anyone and promised to marry her, she wrote in her complaint.

He also raped her on several other occasions later whereby she became pregnant.

On October 20, 2018, the girl came to know about her pregnancy and informed Mahmudul of it. As she expressed her desire to continue with the pregnancy, he forbade her which led to an altercation between them.

At one stage, the OC forced to abort the embryo, the girl said.

As the girl put pressure on him to marry her, Mahmudul stopped communication with her from April 2 last.
