Woman killed, child injured in Bandarban firing

A tribal woman was found dead and her four-year-old child was injured after Jana Samhati Samity (JSS) members opened fire reportedly on an Army patrol at Angaipara in Bandarban's Rowangchhari upazila on Friday, UNB reports.

A local source of Bangladesh Army said that the incident took place around 6pm when an army patrol went to Angaipara after being tipped-off about the presence of some JSS extortionists there.

As soon as the Army patrol reached the area, the JSS members opened fire and fled the scene, he said.

Later, he said, the soldiers chased them and conducted a search operation in the hilly area. At one stage, they found the woman and her child injured.

The woman succumbed to her injuries while being taken to Bandarban Sadar Hospital. The child is now undergoing treatment at there.
