Tigers hit their highest-ever score in World Cup Cricket

Bangladesh’s Tigers put up their highest-ever score in their World Cup Cricket history setting South Africa a challenging 331-run target.

Mahmudullah finished the innings with an unbeaten 46 off 33 balls and helped Bangladesh reach a commendable total of 330 runs in their opening match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 against South Africa at Kennington Oval, London.

South Africa need 331 runs to win.

Earlier, experienced duo Shakib al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim rebuilt the innings with a century partnership after the openers departed in quick succession following a good stand.

Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal was sent back for 16 with a brilliant swinger from Andile Phehlukwayo. Soon after, Soumya Sarkar, who made a rapid 42 off 30 balls, threw away his good start when he attempted to hook a bouncer from Chris Morris.

Bangladesh lost the toss and were asked to bat first by South Africa captain Faf Du Plessis.

The weather forecast says it is likely to be cloudy in London, but there is little possibility of rain.

Prior to this match, Bangladesh team were inflicted with injury problems.

Bangladeshi batsman Tamim was suffering from a wrist injury while skipper Mashrafe Mortaza, pacer Mustafizur Rahman and all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin all had minor injury concerns.

Despite the injury scares, Tamim, Mashrafe, Mustafizur and Saifuddin are all featuring in the World Cup opener for Bangladesh.

South Africa opener Hashim Amla sits out this match due to a head injury. David Miller comes into the side in his place.
