Injured Shakib uncertain for Sri Lanka match today

Bangladesh star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is doubtful for Bangladesh’s 4th World Cup encounter against their sub-continental opponent Sri Lanka on Tuesday at Bristol. He suffered a blow on his quadriceps during the last game against England.

Quoting Bangladesh media manager Rabeed Imam, UNB reports that Shakib went under a precautionary scan which suggested that he suffered a grade-1 strain. The star all-rounder did not participate in the team training session on Monday.

However, it is still not clear whether Shakib will play the match against Sri Lanka or not. If he fails to make it, Sabbir Rahman, the right-handed middle-order batsman, might be included in the playing XI.

Bangladesh might bring two more changes to the team. Mohammad Mithun and Mehidy Hasan Miraz might be replaced by Liton Das and Rubel Hossain. Mithun has been poor in the middle from the start of the World Cup. Miraz, on the other hand, has been doing well but he has to pave the way for Rubel considering the condition of Bristol.

While Bangladesh are worried about the fitness of Shakib, both teams are concerned about the weather of Bristol. The forecast suggests that there is a 90 percent chance of rain during the match which can wash the match out.

Bristol has hosted two matches of this World Cup so far and one of them ended with no result due to persistent rain. The clash between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka might endure the same fate here today.
