Slum in city's Mirpur catches fire

A massive fire broke out at a slum in Mirpur-7 of the city on Friday evening.
Ershad Hossain, duty officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence Central Control Room, said the fire originated from a shanty of the slum at Chalantika intersection on the west side of Al Arabia Mosque around 7:20pm and it soon engulfed the adjoining ones.
On information, 20 firefighting units rushed in to douse the blaze, he said.
However, the firefighters could not bring the fire under control till filing of this report around 9:45pm.
They rescued two injured people and took them to hospital.
