Ershad's health condition deteriorates again: GM Quader

The health condition of Jatiya Party chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad has deteriorated again, party’s acting chairman GM Quader said.

“Currently he (Ershad) has been given oxygen support as his condition has deteriorated again,” Quader said in a press briefing at the party’s Banani office in Dhaka Sunday evening, citing physicians of the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), where Ershad is undergoing treatment.

“On Saturday, his health condition improved by 50% but this morning, again it started to deteriorate. Doctors found infection in his lungs. He has been given oxygen support due to the respiratory problem,” said Quader, who is Ershad’s younger brother.

Replying to a question about taking Ershad abroad for better treatment, GM Quader said they are still considering all options but will follow that one what physician will advice.

“Doctors at CMH are hopeful about improvement in his health condition,” he said, adding that doctors at the CMH are very sincerely providing his brother with necessary treatment.

Quader urged all to pray for his brother’s quick recovery.

Ershad, former military ruler, was admitted to the CMH on Wednesday morning as his condition deteriorated.

The 89-year-old former military ruler has been suffering from various old age complications, including low haemoglobin and liver problem, high bilirubin and serious keen pain.

He became inactive in politics because of illness and was hardly seen in party activities since mid-November last.
