2 soldiers killed, 10 injured in Bandarban blast

Two soldiers were killed and 10 wounded in a blast at a heavy weapons firing range in ​​Sadar upazila of Bandarban on Friday morning, according Bangladesh army’s mouthpiece, Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR).

The deceased were named as Jahidul Islam, 28, a resident of Lama upazila, and Nipun Chakma, 30.

The bomb blast took place at Aamtoli of Bandarban Sadar Upazila around 10:30am, according to United News Bangladesh report.

The injured were flown to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital on helicopters.

Nipun died while being taken to the CMH.

All of them are members of Comilla Cantonment's 16-Para Battalion, source said.

Bandarban's police chief Zakir Hossain Majumder said the army was schedule to hold a firing practice at Amtoli on Saturday afternoon.

The soldiers were clearing the bushes when an abandon shell exploded around 10:30am, killing Jahidul on the spot and injuring 11 others, he said.
