At least five members of same family, including a child, were burned to death and two others suffered burn injuries in a fire at a house in Bangladesh's eastern district of Moulovibazar on Tuesday morning.

The fire was occurred on the Central Road in the district town, reports United News of Bangladesh.

The deceased have been identified as Subhas Ray, 65, owner of Pinki Shoe Store, his daughter Priya Ray, 19, his brother’s wife Dipti Ray, 48, wife of his brother-in-law Dipa Ray, 35,  and her daughter Boishakhi Ray, 3.

Abdullah Harun, deputy assistant director of Moulvibazar Fire Service, said the fire broke out at Pinki Shoe Store on the ground floor of a three-storey building around 9:30 am and it spread soon to the adjacent house.

On information, five firefighting units rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze at around 12pm.

Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of sadar police station said five charred bodies were recovered from the house.

According to locals, Subhas Ray used to live with his family behind the store and all of them were in the room when the fire broke out.

The Dhaka Tribune adds: The fire broke out due to a gas pipeline leakage from the second floor of a two-storey building, which also houses a store called Pinky Shoe Store, in Moulvibazar town around 9:30am on Tuesday.

Confirming the matter to local media Moulvibazar model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Alamgir Hossain said that they had recovered the deceased bodies inside the house while conducting a rescue mission.

The bodies have been kept in Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital for autopsy, he added.

Moulvibazar Fire Service Deputy Assistant Director Abdullah Harun said: "We believe the fire broke out due to a gas pipeline leakage on the top floor and then spread to store and nearby buildings."

After being informed of the fire, the district's Deputy Commissioner (DC) Begum Nazia Shirin, Superintendent of police Md Faruk Ahmed, Municipality Mayor Md Fazlur Rahman, and Awami League Moulvibazar unit General Secretary Abdul Malik Tarafdar visited the spot.
