Two men killed in Satkhira ‘gunfight’

Two suspected criminals were killed in a reported gunfight with police in Kamalnagar area near the Bypass road in Satkhira town on early Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Dwip, 25, son of Moinul Islam of Munjitpur village in Satkhira town and Saiful Islam, 30, of Saihati village in Ashashuni upazila, UNB reports.

Locals said both are bodyguards of a local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League.

Md Mostafizur Rahman, superintendent of police, said they arrested Dwip and Saiful on Friday over snatching of Tk 26 lakh from a Bkash company agent in Kaliganj upazila.

Police took the duo to recover the money. When they reached Kamalnagar area around 3am, associates of the criminals open fired to snatch them, leading to a gunfight, the SP added.

They were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot, he said.

Two firearms, four bullets, two knives and a motorbike were recovered from the spot.
