Guwahati-Dhaka flight launched to promote connectivity

A new daily flight between India’s North Eastern region and Bangladesh has been started with a view to promoting people to people contact and boost up tourism, business and education of the two South Asian neighbors.

A daily direct Spicejet flight hast started between Bangladesh and India’s North Eastern Guwahati, Assam since July 1, with eight-member Indian delegation led by Minister of State and Governor of Assam Shri Pijush Hazarikait as maiden passengers, says a press release issued today by Indian High Commission in Dhaka.

“In pursuance of the objective to enhance regional connectivity between North Eastern states of India and Bangladesh, a maiden daily direct flight by Spicejet from Guwahati, Assam to Dhaka, Bangladesh has started,” the statement added.

It added that the 8-member delegation comprising 5 Members of Legislative Assembly, Assam and 3 Government of Assam officials travelled from Guwahati to Dhaka on the maiden flight on July 1.

The delegation in their two-day visit to Dhaka met with the Chairman LPA, Shri Tapan Kumar Chakravorty and had constructive discussions on facilitating and promoting people to people contact and exchanges in diverse spheres, including tourism, business and education.

The delegation visited places of historical importance in Dhaka including Dhakeshwari temple and interacted with the common public.

They also visited High Commission of India, Dhaka and IVAC (Indian Visa Application Centre) on 2nd July and had a fruitful interaction with High Commission officials and common public at IVAC.

On the evening of 2nd July, the delegation met with the Tour Operator’s Association of Bangladesh and discussed ways and means for enhancing people to people interaction by expanding tourism to Assam with the start of a direct flight between Guwahati and Dhaka.

The delegation returned to Guwahati on the returning flight on 3rd July from Dhaka.

The visit is reflective of the existing excellent and friendly relationship between North Eastern region of India and Bangladesh.
