Outgoing Chinese Ambassador Zhang Zuo in Dhaka today said his country would provide all possible cooperation for safe and dignified repatriation of Rohingya people to their homeland as he called on  President Abdul Hamid, state-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha news agency report said.

“China will provide necessary supports for their safe return,” President’s press secretary Joynal Abedin quoted the Chinese envoy as saying during the meeting at Bangabhaban.

The envoy, he said, added: “I, myself, visited the Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar . . . I saw the plights of the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals.”

The President called the Dhaka-Beijing ties excellent and observed that the relations were growing gradually in mutual interest.

He also appreciated the envoy for his role in developing the ties during his tenure in Bangladesh.

The president said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Beijing tour after Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Bangladesh visit strengthened the bilateral ties.

“Many mega projects are being implemented here with the financial and technical supports of China, contributing largely to the national development,” President Hamid said.

Mentioning the Chinese government’s assurance of cooperation to repatriate the Rohingyas, President Hamid expressed his hope that the forcibly displaced Myanmar citizens would be able to return their motherland in a safe and respected manner immediately.

Zuo expressed his deep gratitude to the President and the Bangladesh government for their heartfelt cooperation in discharging his assignment during his stay in Bangladesh.

During the meeting, President’s secretary Sampad Barua, military secretary Major General SM Shamim-Uz-Zaman, ambassador’s spouse Yang Yuanchun, and concerned officials of the foreign ministry and Chinese embassy, were present.
