India-Bangladesh Friendship Dialogue begins

The ninth round of India-Bangladesh Friendship Dialogue began in the resort town of Cox’s Bazar today, aiming to go for investing in a huge way to further strengthen relations between the two countries and create employment opportunities, state-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha news agency report said.

Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury inaugurated the two-day dialogue that will end on Saturday next as the chief guest with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam presiding.

Speaking on the occasion, the Speaker said the friendly relations between Bangladesh and India are very deep and historic.

During the great War of Liberation, India stood by Bangladesh, responding to the call of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the great leader of the nation, she said, adding that People of Bangladesh will never forget the 71’s sacrifice and cooperation of India.

Shirin hoped that the friendship dialogue between Bangladesh and India will enhance the overall cooperation including trade ties between the two neighboring countries.

She wished the success of the ongoing dialogue saying it will find pragmatic ways to resolve the unresolved issues regarding borders between Bangladesh and India.

About ensuring regional security of the two countries, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam said Bangladesh and India are working together following the identical policy to prevent terrorism and militancy.

He hoped that the friendship dialogue would play an important role in enhancing economic cooperation between Dhaka and Delhi.

Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque gave the welcome speech on the occasion.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary Ram Madhav, Finance Minister of Assam (India) Himanta Biswa Sarma and Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das also addressed the dialogue.

Referring to Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina’s recent visit to India, BJP National General Secretary Madhav said many important agreements were signed between Bangladesh and India on various issues which would facilitate to bolster economic cooperation between the two countries.

He said that under the prudent leadership of PM Sheikh Hasina, currently Bangladesh is witnessing great progress, adding that soon Bangladesh will become the ‘gateway’ to this region as China, India, Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar will also be able to use this gateway to get benefits.

Bangladesh has set a unique example of humanity by giving shelter to a large number of Rohingyas as per the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he added.

He hoped that the Rohingya problem would be resolved through diplomatic initiatives soon.
