The Met Office advised to hoist great danger signal No 10 for Mongla and Payra ports and nine coastal districts in the region on Saturday morning as very severe cyclonic storm ‘Bulbul’ approaches.

The maritime port of Chattogram and five nearby districts were advised to hoist great danger signal No 9, the Met Office said in a special bulletin at 8am, reports United News of Bangladesh.

‘Bulbul’ intensified further and lied over Northwest Bay and adjoining west-central Bay in the morning.

Meanwhile, all fishing boats in the Bay of Bengal as well as big rivers inside the country have already been backed to nearby mainland.

Thousands of relief workers and law enforcers have been ordered to remain high alert to face any untoward incident while people in coastal areas began moving to cyclone centers since Saturday morning.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has suspended launch services on all routes as very severe cyclonic storm ‘Bulbul’ approaches the coast.

BIWTA issued a notice in this regard on Friday night, said AKM Arif Uddin, the joint director of Dhaka River Port Authority.

He said the decision was taken considering the safety and security of the people.
