Fakhrul, 3 others asked to surrender before court in 6 weeks

The High Court on Tuesday asked four BNP leaders, including its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, to surrender before a magistrate court within six weeks in a case filed for issuing ‘death threat’ to Bangladesh Jononetri Paishad President AB Siddique.

The court also directed law enforcers not to harass the four BNP leaders within the period.

The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after hearing petitions filed by the BNP leaders seeking interim bail in the case, said their counsel Sagir Hossain Lion.

The three other BNP leaders are its standing committee members Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy.

On Monday, a court here issued a warrant for the arrest of nine BNP leaders, including the four, over the case.

The other accused areBNP chairperson's adviser Amanullah Aman, BNP standing committee members, BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, dismissed Buet teacher Hafizur Rahman Rana and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader Emdadul Haque Bhuiyan.

According to the case statement, Rana sent a letter to the plaintiff on July 23 last by post threatening to kill him.

Later, he lodged a general diary with Hatirjheel Police Station seeking security.
